A technical regime, not just a place

Parc fermé refers to controlled conditions in which teams cannot freely modify their cars. The aim is for the car used in certain sessions to remain in its regulated configuration and be available for inspection by officials.

Not every intervention is prohibited

Certain maintenance operations, checks and like-for-like replacements are allowed within the regulations and with the required approvals. A damaged part does not automatically grant permission to change a car’s setup. The specific conditions must be assessed.

Why it matters for strategy

If the forecast changes between qualifying and the race, a team can be stuck with a setup compromise. Breaching the regime may require a pit-lane start. Parc fermé windows differ between conventional and Sprint weekends; consult the applicable regulations.
