Confirmation on 22 October

Bart Harrison will race for AJ Foyt Racing in the 2027 Indy NXT by Firestone season, the championship reported on 22 October 2026. It will be the 19-year-old Englishman’s first full campaign in the series. That distinction matters to the chronology of his career: Harrison already made his Indy NXT debut late in 2026. The Foyt agreement takes him into a season-long programme after his initial appearances with HMD Motorsports, rather than marking his first entry into the championship.

Portland and Laguna Seca came first

Harrison earned a top-10 result on his first start at Portland International Raceway. He then contested both races of the season-ending doubleheader at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Those three appearances came with HMD Motorsports, the strategic alliance partner of AJ Foyt Racing’s programme. His team name will therefore change for 2027, but he has already gained his first experience of the car and championship environment within an organisation connected to the team he is joining.

An 82-lap Griffis test

On 16 October, Harrison tested with Foyt at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. He completed 82 laps and recorded the ninth-fastest time on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn circuit. In the signing announcement, team president Larry Foyt said the team had been impressed by both Harrison’s performance and his approach during the test. That session supplied a direct opportunity for driver and team to work together before confirming the 2027 arrangement.

The programme he is joining

AJ Foyt Racing is preparing for a second consecutive Indy NXT season following its return in 2026. That comeback campaign produced two victories, eight Firestone P1 Awards and four podium finishes. Harrison therefore joins a programme with a recent championship season against which its work can be assessed. Those figures belong to the team’s 2026 record and explain the setting for the move. Harrison’s stated aim is to build on his initial experience and continue developing as a driver.

A European route into Indy NXT

Harrison also raced in Eurocup-3 with Double R Racing during 2026. His single-seater background includes British F4, Italian F4 and GB3 before his programme expanded to the United States. He began karting at eight and won the X30 Junior class at the IAME Winter Cup in Valencia in both 2020 and 2021. The championship’s announcement identifies him as the category’s only two-time winner at that event, adding the earlier karting milestones to his more recent car-racing experience.

From initial appearances to a full campaign

The concrete change for 2027 is the continuity of a complete season. In his statement, Harrison emphasised using his first taste of the championship as a foundation for further development and welcomed the opportunity to join Foyt’s programme. The sequence is clear: an HMD debut at Portland, two Laguna Seca races, a Foyt test on 16 October and a signing announced on 22 October. The first full campaign is the next step, scheduled for 2027.
