A conversation requested before the Brazil weekend
Lewis Hamilton believes he, Charles Leclerc and Ferrari’s leadership need a face-to-face discussion about their Mexico battle. In comments made on Thursday, 5 November and reported by Formula 1, Hamilton said that conversation had not yet taken place. This describes the position at the time of the interview ahead of São Paulo; it is not an announcement of the conclusions of any subsequent meeting. No later outcome is established by the sources used here.
The official result and Hamilton’s assessment
Mexico’s official classification puts Hamilton second, 0.799 seconds behind Max Verstappen, with Leclerc fourth. Ferrari therefore scored 30 race points. Hamilton believes the team could have achieved a one-two and that the opening-lap contest cost it an opportunity. That is the driver’s assessment, rather than a proven alternative result. The finishing positions and his explanation of what might have happened should remain distinct when evaluating Ferrari’s weekend and the discussion it prompted.
A clearer basis for racing each other
Hamilton also spoke about Ferrari’s recent improvement and maintained that the atmosphere within the team is positive. He sees Mexico as a reason to establish a stronger foundation for working together, including for 2027, rather than a problem automatically solved by one meeting. The consulted sources do not announce the introduction of team orders for São Paulo or a general prohibition on the drivers racing each other. Those would be separate decisions requiring their own confirmation.
The current contest and the next season
APEX analysis: a team can allow competition between its drivers while clarifying their responsibilities when pursuing a shared result. That does not show that a new rule already exists. Ferrari currently has 504 constructors’ points against Mercedes’ 630. The drivers’ title has been decided, but Ferrari is not yet mathematically eliminated from the constructors’ championship. Keeping that distinction clear matters when comments about building towards 2027 are discussed alongside the team’s immediate sporting objectives. Brazil’s final classification will supply the next championship update.
