The championship is confirmed at Interlagos
Mercedes secured the 2026 World Constructors’ Championship at the São Paulo Grand Prix. Formula 1 confirmed the title in its 8 November race report. George Russell finished fourth and Kimi Antonelli fifth, bringing the team a combined 22 points. Mercedes therefore settles the teams’ contest after Antonelli had already claimed the drivers’ championship in Mexico. The two achievements were confirmed at separate Grands Prix.
How the Brazil points add up
Russell earned 12 points and Antonelli ten. Ferrari scored six through seventh-placed Charles Leclerc and two through Lewis Hamilton in ninth. Mercedes’ gain over Ferrari in this race is an APEX calculation of 14 points: 22 minus eight. The consulted individual classification remains provisional, while F1’s announcement that Mercedes has won the championship is explicit. Those two source statuses are kept distinct.
The standings after the race
The official constructors’ table puts Mercedes on 652 points and Ferrari on 512, a calculated gap of 140. Behind them, Red Bull has 415 and McLaren 398 following Norris’s victory and Piastri’s sixth place.
| Pos. | Constructor | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mercedes | 652 |
| 2 | Ferrari | 512 |
| 3 | Red Bull Racing | 415 |
| 4 | McLaren | 398 |
A decisive day without a Mercedes podium
Mercedes did not need a victory at Interlagos. Russell recovered from seventh to fourth, while Antonelli scored despite the two spins described by F1, including one before the start. APEX analysis: the result demonstrates the distinction between winning a Grand Prix and building a championship. On a day when McLaren won and Red Bull secured a double podium, Mercedes’ accumulated season total became decisive in the contest for the teams’ trophy.
