The same pairing for a new generation

Porsche will continue with Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller in the GEN4 era, according to Formula E’s confirmation on 19 October. The reigning manufacturers’ champion therefore retains its pairing for 2026/27. The decision provides continuity behind the wheel during a technical transition. It confirms that the two drivers will tackle that change together, rather than introducing a new partnership.

Müller also brings race-winning experience

Müller’s sporting milestone last season was his maiden Formula E victory, achieved in Berlin on 2 May. The official report describes his energy management in the closing stages and a winning margin of 4.7 seconds. That experience adds to the pairing’s profile: Porsche retains two race winners, rather than a champion alongside a teammate still searching for his first victory in the series.

Both drivers have helped develop the 975 RSE

Porsche’s technical feature published on 31 August says Wehrlein and Müller have been testing the 975 RSE on track since November 2025. The manufacturer also explains the role of in-house software, simulation and test benches. Real running remains necessary to calibrate the systems. The new model succeeds the 99X Electric; its name represents more than a change to the previous car’s livery.

What continuity could bring

APEX’s interpretation: retaining the drivers may help engineers compare feedback throughout development without changing the people providing it at the same time. Any advantage still needs testing in competition. A positive impression during testing does not by itself establish one-lap pace, race energy use or reliability across a season. Those are useful questions for assessing Porsche’s GEN4 progress beyond the reputations of the names on its entry.
