The update announced on 4 November
Japan Race Promotion, the organiser of Super Formula, has confirmed new details for its fourth technical session at Suzuka on 20 November. The 4 November release announces support from the Automobile Business & Culture Association of Japan (ABAJ) and Suzuka City, plus a display of the MAZDA SPIRIT RACING 3 Future concept. Sustainability is the event’s theme, connecting the championship’s wider activities with discussions about technologies under development for mobility.
Mazda’s development car is not a Super Formula single-seater
The Mazda3-based development vehicle competes in Super Taikyu’s ST-Q class. According to JRP, its Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture equipment collects and stores CO₂ from the exhaust while the car is running. The organiser reports that 804 grams were recovered during the Fuji 24 Hours in June 2026. That figure is attributed to the announcement: it is neither an APEX measurement nor a complete accounting of the vehicle’s emissions across its lifecycle.
What the Suzuka event includes
The official event page describes a technical exhibition and presentations from industry specialists. Its published topics include the IT infrastructure behind major sporting events, the development of CO₂-capture technology and the experience of student teams competing in STEM Racing. The announced venue is Suzuka Circuit’s Hospitality Lounge, with free admission and visitor registration handled through the organiser’s page. Anyone planning to attend should consult that page for access arrangements and the latest programme before travelling.
Reading the technology claim in context
APEX context: the amount of CO₂ captured by a device and the climate impact of an entire vehicle are different measurements. A full assessment would also consider energy consumption, fuel and what happens to the captured gas after storage. The release describes a development project and a technical showcase; it does not by itself establish climate neutrality. Nor does it announce that the Mazda system will be installed on Super Formula cars. The event is a forum for technical exchange, separate from the championship’s sporting regulations and its single-seater specification.
