Verstappen wins the closing battle

Max Verstappen won the Mexico City Grand Prix on 1 November 2026 after 71 laps in 2:20:28.772. Lewis Hamilton finished just 0.799 seconds behind, with Kimi Antonelli completing the podium at 4.006 seconds. These results come from FIA Document 75, the provisional race classification, and agree with the official Formula 1 results page at publication.

Antonelli secures his first world title

Formula 1 confirms that third place gives Antonelli his first title and the record as the youngest World Champion, aged 20. Mercedes had explained before the event that a top-nine finish would be enough. The updated F1 standings show him on 380 points, followed by Verstappen on 261, Hamilton on 259 and Russell on 250. APEX’s reading: this result separates the race winner from the driver who settles the championship.

The leading ten in the provisional classification

The table retains the winner’s time, gaps and points published by the FIA. Every driver in the leading ten completed 71 laps. Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris complete the top five. The provisional status matters particularly for cases still open after the finish, rather than implying a decision has already been reached.

Bottas and Lindblad incidents interrupt the race

The official F1 report records a red flag after Valtteri Bottas’s accident and a later Safety Car intervention following the incident between Arvid Lindblad and Oscar Piastri. Verstappen retained the lead through the decisive stages. APEX analysis: the restarts maintained pressure on the leader, while the winning margin of less than a second describes a closely contested finish.

Confirmed penalties and the case still open

The FIA gave Leclerc five seconds for gaining an advantage off the track on the opening lap, allowing for mitigating circumstances. Russell received ten seconds for his collision with Hadjar at Turn 6, and Hülkenberg ten for contact with Bearman at Turn 4. Documents 72 and 73 summon Piastri and Lindblad; a summons does not constitute a verdict. The classification consulted remains provisional.

Hirakawa completes his debut, São Paulo comes next

Ryō Hirakawa is listed 13th, having completed all 71 laps in his first Formula 1 race. Hamilton holds the fastest lap, a 1:19.268 on Lap 50. The championship continues in São Paulo across the weekend of 6–8 November. For APEX’s assessment, the next reference is how teams translate their conclusions from Mexico into preparation for the Interlagos round.
