A change forced by damage
Mercedes have confirmed that George Russell will exceed his power-unit component allocation in Singapore. The team must replace the engine following the failure that ended his race at Sepang. Formula 1 published the confirmation on 7 October.
The Sprint remains separate
According to the official information, the sanction applies to Sunday’s Grand Prix, not Saturday’s Sprint. The minimum penalty is ten places; its exact extent depends on the components changed. Mercedes anticipate starting at the back of the grid. The final starting position will be determined through the weekend’s official documents.
The championship stakes
Russell has 236 points, 84 behind Kimi Antonelli. The Sprint weekend offers two points-scoring sessions, but Sunday’s recovery will be complicated by the sanction.
