Air does not flow only over the car

The area beneath a car can generate a significant share of its aerodynamic downforce. Engineers use geometry permitted by the regulations to organise airflow and pressure differences. It is not accurate to explain all downforce through a single simplified formula.

Ride height changes behaviour

The floor’s position relative to the asphalt varies under braking, acceleration and over bumps. A configuration that works within a narrow range can become sensitive outside it. Suspension and aerodynamics are therefore connected.

The regulatory context

The 2026 regulations change the floor philosophy compared with the previous generation. An explanation of the tunnels and ground effect used in 2022–2025 should not automatically be applied to the new car. Upgrade analysis must identify the season and the limits of observation.
