From deceleration to stored energy
The MGU-K can recover energy associated with deceleration and convert it into electrical energy. It is stored and later used for propulsion within regulatory limits. The system works alongside the brakes and combustion engine.
The difference in the 2026 generation
The new regulations increase the role of the electrical component and remove the MGU-H. Energy management must adapt to each circuit’s characteristics. A long straight does not mean energy can be used without power limits or concern for the rest of the lap.
What recovery does not mean
Energy is not free, and conversion involves losses. The team must balance recovery, consumption and braking behaviour. An energy-flow illustration shows the principle, not a constructor’s confidential parameters.
